True Life Stories Can Be Stranger Than Fiction... |

The Beretta Stampede Story: Approximately 2 years ago I
bought a Beretta Tomcat .32 from a customer, as always, I asked
him if he had the factory box, (always get the factory box if at
all possible). |

He apologized and stated that he didn't have the Tomcat box ,but
would throw in a Beretta Stampede box belonging to a gun that he
didn't have anymore. I figured that the wrong box was better
than no box, so I accepted it figuring that I might need it
later. I threw it in the drawer and forgot about it. So
anyway, fast forward 2 years, this gentleman comes in to my
store wanting to trade his "Cowboy gun" for a "Carry gun". We
strike up a deal, as always, I ask if he has the factory box. He
didn't have it so it hurt his trade-in value. We ended up doing
the deal . I cleaned up the gun, logged it into my "bound book"
(as per BATF regulations) and put it in the showcase. I then
remembered the Stampede box that I bought with the Tomcat .32.
I decided to check how far apart the serial number range was. Oh
my God, I had just traded for the exact gun that the factory
shipped in my old box.
I know people say that we live in a small world , but come
on, what are the chances of a foreign made gun winding up in a
small town in Alabama 2 years after the box it shipped in. For
your further consideration , may I add to the story that the man
had just moved to Alabama from Georgia.

Just a side note, especially since the dawn of
internet sales, "New In Box" (NIB) items command a premium,
never throw away a box. I have seen an empty box of Flat
Henry ammo bring $5000.00 on eBay. |
